Cory Cavegn, LPCC
As a mental health practitioner I aim to create space for those who seek support in finding understanding and purpose. Holding a channel to be heard for those who find it challenging to open up about their emotions and troubles. Many of us are never taught how to talk about our emotional processes and are often taught by our surroundings that doing so is a sign of weakness or dysfunction. My goal is to dispel this myth for those who have been conditioned to believe their struggles are not valid. All people deal with challenges and internal struggles. Learning how to express those difficulties takes time and practice. It is a muscle that we must build and stretch to improve how it functions. Learning to be open and vulnerable is no small task, that is greatly aided by the support of a professional who cultivates an environment of growth and healing. I strive to do this for my clients.
I come from a background where expression of emotional distress was not supported and know the social stigmas that create walls for individuals wishing to find assistance. Working much of my life in a blue collar environment and as a first responder. I have learned how cultural stigma can be a barrier to emotional growth. Through my own journey of mental health, I have learned what it means to break free from stereotypes and preconceived ideas of what we are expected to be to fit the molds of society. Embracing what makes every individual worthy of acceptance and appreciation is what drives me to be a counselor.
My approach is to help you be your most true self. Helping you discover what it is that you want and need in life. Through encouragement of individual strengths and goals we can create the life that you are meant to live. With the use of physical movement, mental flexibility, and engagement in meaningful action, we will move you in the direction you wish to see yourself. Being a person centered therapist I believe that you know what that means for you more than anyone else. My goal is to help you conceptualize that in the most tangible way possible. You are meant to live a life that is fulfilling and makes you proud of the person you are every day. Let me assist you in that journey and being your most authentic self.
